A two-tracker of freshness from Boxcutter, also known as Barry Lynn, a producer who was taking chances and constantly mutating his music way before people started talking about post-dubstep. This single precedes his new album The Dissolve, due out this spring. Lead track “Allele” builds from echoey drums into a tight, juke-influenced pattern with lots of edits. Lynn adds an old-school hardcore-style vocal, wavering chords and drops, before the whole thing finally resolves into a restrained but ravey breakbeat. “Other People” mixes hazy, live-sounding two-step beats with a lush, bittersweet melody reminiscent of Drexciya offshoot The Other People Place, which glides subtly through a background of shimmering effects and delays.
