Bussin Down is the first single from Chicago’s Chrissy Murderbot, who comes with a style inspired by his hometown’s Juke and Footwork scenes. Playfully adding in elements of R&B and dancehall, his lively mutations have a warm-hearted mass appeal that comfortably straddles genres. “Bussin Down” features Chicago Footwork supremo DJ Spinn over some high-speed jazz funk and cracking claps and claviers; “Braaain” is a unique amalgam of Footwork and the classic early digital Sleng Teng bassline. The latter blend works fantastically, as Murderbot slides the original’s vocal in and out of the mix in a dub style. On the B-side, Bristol, England’s Atki2 takes a track from Murderbot’s upcoming Women’s Studies album, “The Vibe Is So Right” (featuring vocals from MC Zulu), and runs it through a lush treatment that mixes Detroit washes with tight, rolling house drums. On their remix, Chicago Footwork pioneers DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn send the original’s vocal into a whirl of complex delays and layered loops over cold drums and hard techno stabs. Digital version features exclusive bonus remix by Ghosts on Tape!!!
